5 Unexpected Denim Trends To Try
By PAGE Editor
While many styles and trends come in and out of fashion, denim is a piece that never loses its value. Different styles of jeans have become popular at different times, but denim itself has remained a staple item in the wardrobes of people all around the world.
Interestingly, while we often associate denim and blue jean pants as being American, denim was actually first invented in France. Named serge de Nîmes, the material was produced for the first time in Nîmes in the 17th century.
It wasn’t until the Gold Rush in the mid-1800s that denim made its way to the United States. During this time, Levi Strauss opened a shop in San Francisco and alongside Jacob Davis, he began to produce and market pants made of the material.
While they started out as hardy working pants, they became a huge part of mainstream fashion.
Here are just five denim trends that you should give a try:
Stacked Denim
Over the last couple of decades, Stacked denim style has become increasingly popular, particularly in men’s fashion and amongst hip hop stars and rap artists. The stacking effect is created by wearing jeans that are too long.
The material bunches up at the end of each leg and creates rolls between the ankle and the knee. Many types of jeans can be worn in a stacked style, including flared jeans and more fitted types.
Any color of denim and ripped or non-ripped, this is a versatile style that is easy to achieve.
Patterned Jeans
Wearing patterned denim is fun and daring, your look is bound to be noticed. There is a whole range of patterns to choose from, some are more subtle while others are bold with clashing colors.
Check print is a popular option and looks great paired with a plain t-shirt in a complementary color. For a vintage vibe, zebra print looks fierce and can be toned down with sneakers or dressed up with heels.
You may have one or two tie-dye tees in your closet but what about tie-dye jeans? This style is gentle and effortless and goes well with bright white sneakers or sandals.
Color Jeans
Traditionally denim is light blue, but darker blues, blacks, and gray tones are also common in denim clothing. Different less-traditional colors are now on-trend and are stocked at most popular retailers.
For summer and spring, pastel colors such as lilac, baby pink, and mint green are worth trying. For a bold look, red denim jeans are a trendy statement piece.
White denim jackets, pants, or shorts can look really smart too.
All-in-ones
Why stick to only denim jeans and jackets? All-in-one denim clothes are a practical and fashion-forward choice and there are plenty of options to choose from.
For example, dungarees are a popular choice and are perfect for every season. They can be paired with a jumper and boots in colder weather or a simple t-shirt in the warmer months.
Denim playsuits and jumpsuits are also on-trend statement pieces and look great with chunky jewelry and other accessories. For a seventies vibe, a denim catsuit with flared bottoms is one to try.
All-in-one denim items are usually a more casual outfit choice but can always be dressed up with smart shoes.
Side-Striped
From skinny leg to wide leg jeans, side-striped denim pants come in a range of styles and colors. A bold stripe can add an interesting focal point to an otherwise plain outfit.
A slide along the length of the jeans can also help to elongate the leg and make you appear taller, particularly if they are a high-waisted fit.
