The End of The World: Reliving this Summer at The Surf Lodge in Montauk, NY
Written by Cassell Ferere
It’s only so often that New Yorkers are entitled to beach weather, let alone access to a beach. And with summer coming to a close, The Surf Lodge is wrapping up as the premier seasonal getaway. Head out to Long Island, dread through a couple of hours of traffic and enjoy a Summer weekend in the quaint community of Montauk with friends or family.
It’s a weekend execution shared by a handful of New Yorkers. Amongst them are people from all over the world. The Surf Lodge is the place where East meets West, surfer meets banker, small business meets corporate. The weather happens to be perfect every weekend, and even when it’s not, it’s still a vibe. You can have soft sand between your toes, or local lobster on your plate. Chill out by the bar, whether inside or out on the deck. Live music adds a special touch to the ambiance with sunset performances from an array of amazing musicians, DJs. and recording artist.
The Surf Lodge adopted the concept, manifesting a beach scene ashore a picturesque pond and the impression of a west-coast beach party in Montauk, NY. Out on the terrace, you can dine waterside and eat some of the best lobster rolls on the east coast. The menu is direct and delicious, heavily inspired by the daily catch down at the Montauk Harbor and the farmlands of the North Fork and East End of Long Island.
The dishes come out of the kitchen, past your table, creating a frenzy as you “wish you had ordered that!” Steak, roasted cauliflower in coconut green curry sauce, pan-seared tender scallops, savory arancini, and mouth-watering truffle mushroom ravioli are some of the dishes you can order that will set off your taste buds like fireworks on the fourth of July. No worries on what to order, the staff will be more than helpful in suggesting what to eat and what drinks would fit your current mood. Adding pop-up restaurants and beverage activations to the weekend allow for some delicious options from the usual. Now and again you can find some cool beverage companies and restaurants setting up shop to serve cold original drinks and cocktails, or mouth-watering bar-b-que.
Montauk happens to be that beach getaway for New Yorkers you can only find elsewhere, secluded behind the Hamptons and the Atlantic Ocean, located at “The End of the World.” No beach, but waterfront views, Surf Lodge possesses an LA vibe that some New Yorkers rather choose to buy a flight out west. Where the city is as close as the beach and the sun is always shining. In the summer, that’s what you get, especially if you’re down for that road trip I divulged earlier. But if you’re not the idea of road tripping, you can always take one of the many helicopter companies that offer rides to the Hamptons and Montauk.
It was only not too long ago that New Yorkers were flocking to the Hamptons as the summer destination for weekend getaways. That was a time before Summer Fridays and shared-rides. Although the long island communities are still frequented by New Yorkers, The Surf Lodge has added a cooler, youthful quality for those less interested in relaxation and more interested in sun and fun. Adding live music and DJs to the dinner party scene only amplifies the coastal undertone. Partnering with brands like BMW and Ray-ban, that enhance the Lodges beach appeal, each weekend serves up gifts and treats from fashion brands, beverage companies, restaurants, and more all summer.
Ray-Ban covered the faces of influencers and patrons alike.
Intimate performances where the patrons can stand inches away from the artist culminate in the evening. Electrifying the crowd, the likes of Madison Beer, SofiTukker, Arizona, 50 cent, John Legend, Willow Smith, Young Paris, Lupe Fiasco, DJ Cassidy, Thievery Corporation, Lukas Nelson and even Mr. Margaritaville himself, Jimmy Buffet, have graced the stage this summer. When the playlist is that wide-ranging, it’s easy to select a weekend to fit just for your musical taste. In an intimate setting, Surf Lodge is a prime location for up-close and personal performances from favorite music artists. This premium experience is what sets The Surf Lodge apart from other seasonal venues.
This summer went by fast – per usual – and the temperature has been up and down, hit left and right with rain here in NYC. And Montauk was no exception to enduring the rapid temperature and weather change. That doesn’t stop the wave out east, not at this surf lodge.
