With another milestone for Daniel Day, also known as Dapper Dan, Pepsi joins forces with the Harlem native and fashion guru for a fan-centric capsule. Dapper Dan has been an intricate part of fashion in Harlem and around the globe. He is responsible for dressing many American football players and other athletes and entertainers across the world.
Available to fans on September 9, the same day the NFL season kicks off and with New York Fashion Week in full swing, the Pepsi x Dapper Dan Football Watching Capsule Collection will debut on the MadeForFootballWatching.compage. Designing this accelerated collection that took four weeks to come to life was most exciting for Dapper Dan with a brief that had “emphasis on logo-mania. That’s my thing,” Dan exudes.
Dan took time to show his capsule to former NFL wide receiver and style icon Victor Cruz, whom Dan admires a lot, in a short video. “I’m looking at athletes who represent a lot in different spaces. That opens up doors for younger people. His presence and what he means to the community,” Dan expresses of Victor Cruz. Similarly to his being from the streets of Harlem to the runways of fashion.
Dapper Dan is the acclaimed father of logomania who has made symbolism his life. He sees the Pepsi logo as precious as any other, finding meaning beyond our view. He states, “the biggest thing about this collaboration is the Pepsi Logo itself. You see the American flag colors, and you see the swish running through the red and the blue and the mystery that that adds. The whole magic of the globe and three colors - make you feel that this is something thought out. With Pepsi, I wanted to make the mystery of the circle stay that way. Because, if I look into what it is, I may change how I would want to render it. Pepsi is as powerful as it is.”
