Nesty Delgado and TEAM 1144 Support Alturas de Bélgica Community

San Juan, Puerto Rico – July, 2024: Have you heard about the incredible work being done by TEAM 1144, LLC? Led by Nesty Delgado, they have been chosen to manage the grants and execution for the relocation of the Alturas de Bélgica community in Guánica. This comes as part of a new agreement between the Department of Housing (PR Housing Department) and the Municipality of Guánica.

Addressing a Critical Situation

In the Alturas de Bélgica area, recent heavy rains have caused serious landslides. Residents had to evacuate, and 15 people are now staying at the María Luisa McDougall school. The roads and land, especially on Las Rosas Street, have dangerous cracks, and one house has already collapsed. The situation is urgent and needs quick action.

The Memorandum of Understanding

On July 2, 2024, Mayor Ismael "Titi" Rodríguez and Housing Secretary William O. Rodríguez signed an agreement to help the affected families. This agreement includes $10 million to relocate these families and provide them with safe, new homes. It also covers temporary rental assistance and vouchers for buying new properties, ensuring these homes meet safety and hygiene standards. The plan includes demolishing dangerous buildings and stopping new constructions in high-risk areas.

TEAM 1144’s Role

TEAM 1144, LLC, under Nesty Delgado's leadership, is playing a key role in coordinating the emergency response and recovery efforts. Additionally, TEAM 1144 has Alba Norys De León as MOU Execution Manager, who is an expert in Change Management and Municipal Affairs and who is crucial in achieving adequate care and support for each of the affected residents. With their extensive project management experience, they are committed to providing a quick and effective response. They are working closely with local authorities, the Department of Housing, and agencies like FEMA.

A comprehensive approach

TEAM 1144's approach not only focuses on the immediate safety of the families but also aims to rebuild the community sustainably. They ensure that resources are managed transparently and effectively.

This effort shows how skilled project management, change management, and teamwork, but above all, great empathy with each of the victims, can turn disaster responses into lasting solutions for communities. Alba De Leon and Nesty Delgado’s combined experience in project management, change management, and emergency response is invaluable in making sure the agreement is carried out efficiently and that families receive timely help.

Transforming Challenges into Opportunities

Nesty Delgado and TEAM 1144 combine their expertise in project management, change management, and emergency response to offer a holistic solution. They not only address the immediate needs of displaced families but also plan for a sustainable and resilient recovery. Their efforts demonstrate how strong leadership and collaboration can turn significant challenges into opportunities for community strengthening and rebuilding.

Every member of TEAM 1144 knows that effective communication with all affected people is crucial. It is important to convey that although the current situation may seem like a calamity, it has the potential to become a blessing. By obtaining the necessary funds from the Municipality and Housing, these families can acquire new homes in safe places, transforming a period of crisis into a path towards a safe and stable future.
