Advice From A Sneakerhead: How To Store and Display Your Collection
By PAGE Editor
Sneakers have become a billion-dollar industry, which means for some displaying their collection is just as important as acquiring the kicks themselves. To help you create an eye-catching showcase for your sneakers, I've enlisted the help of Josh, the founder of CaptainCreps, to share some expert insights. Here are some of the best ways he recommends to display your sneaker collection:
Shelving:
In the world of sneaker displays, shelves reign supreme. Josh suggests using floating shelves or bookcases to create a clean and visually appealing setup. We know that flatpack furniture is some people's worst nightmare, but IKEA offers a number of affordable solutions. "Spacing is key," he says. "Make sure to leave enough space between each pair to avoid a cluttered look."
Clear boxes:
For those looking to combine protection with visibility, clear plastic boxes are a solid choice. Josh explains, "These boxes not only protect your sneakers from dust but also make it easy to see each pair. Plus, you can stack them to save space and maintain an organized collection." You can find these boxes for a good price from online retailers such as Amazon.
Picture ledges:
Sneakerheads seeking a unique wall display should consider picture ledges. Though they're designed for picture frames, they're perfect for sneakers too. Line up your kicks on the ledges to create an interesting visual that highlights your collection. Why not go a step further and install LED strip lighting under the ledges to level up your display?
Pegboards:
Pegboards offer a versatile and customizable option for displaying sneakers. As Josh points out, "You can hang your sneakers from hooks attached to the pegboard, making it easy to rearrange your collection and add new pairs as your collection grows."
Custom displays:
For large or particularly valuable sneaker collections, a custom display might be the best route. Collaborate with a carpenter or designer to create a unique display that caters to your space and collection. "It's an investment," Josh says, "but one that will truly showcase your sneakers in the best way possible."
Should you keep the boxes?
“The answer to this question depends on your end goal. If the sneakers are just for you to collect and wear, then you don’t need to keep the box. However, if you are planning to sell the sneakers at a later date, then keeping the original box in good condition will increase your resale value.
Many people choose to keep their boxes ‘just in case’, for example, if you wanted to change your display or remove it completely you have somewhere safe to store your sneaker collection to keep them free from dust.”
