Lewis Hamilton And Frances Tiafoe Explore The Mindset Behind High Performance In lululemon’s ‘Rest Day’ Series

For elite athletes, performance is rarely defined by what happens when the competition begins. The preparation, recovery and mental discipline that happen away from the spotlight can be just as important as the moments audiences see. lululemon is exploring that space with its original content series, “Rest Day with Lewis Hamilton,” bringing the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion into conversations with athletes from entirely different disciplines.
For Episode 2, Hamilton meets professional tennis player and fellow lululemon ambassador Frances Tiafoe. The pairing offers more than a crossover between motorsport and tennis. It creates a conversation around the similarities that exist between athletes competing in very different arenas—from maintaining focus under pressure to finding incremental advantages that can change the outcome of a performance.
Following the series’ inaugural episode with professional golfer Min Woo Lee, Hamilton and Tiafoe take their conversation to the tennis court. What begins with a lighthearted rally develops into a broader discussion about mindfulness, breathwork, personal experiences and the importance of representation in sport.
“Frances and I understand each other well, even though we come from completely different sports,” Hamilton says. “We’re both focused on staying locked in, building momentum and challenging ourselves to reach the next goal.”
That shared mentality is central to the series. Hamilton, whose career has made him one of Formula 1’s most recognizable athletes, has increasingly used his platform beyond racing, while Tiafoe has become one of the most visible personalities in American tennis. Forbes has noted Hamilton’s significant commercial reach beyond the track, while Tiafoe’s partnership with lululemon has similarly positioned the tennis player at the intersection of performance, fashion and culture.
The conversation between the two athletes demonstrates why cross-sport dialogue has become increasingly relevant to the modern athlete. Techniques developed in one discipline can provide insight into another, particularly when the focus shifts from physical ability to the psychology behind performance.
“One of the most interesting things Lewis and I talked about was the importance of breathwork to stay calm in the big moments,” Tiafoe says. “It’s so interesting to talk through the differences and similarities with athletes in other sports, you see we’re all very similar and pushing ourselves in the same ways.”
For lululemon, the episode also extends a broader strategy of building its presence through athletes who can speak to performance in their own distinct voices. Tiafoe joined the brand in 2025, bringing his personality and approach to tennis into lululemon’s growing presence in the sport. His partnership has already extended beyond simply wearing the product, with the athlete involved in product development and providing feedback on performance apparel.
That relationship between athlete and product is increasingly becoming part of the conversation around modern sportswear. Tiafoe’s lululemon partnership has emphasized both performance and personal expression, with previous collections incorporating references to his Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia roots.
In “Rest Day,” however, the clothing becomes secondary to the people wearing it. Hamilton and Tiafoe appear in lululemon’s latest tennis styles, but the real focus is on what happens before the next race, match or major moment—the conversations, rituals and mental resets that allow athletes to return ready to perform.
The second episode of “Rest Day with Lewis Hamilton” has launched globally on August 27 at 9 a.m. PST through lululemon’s YouTube channel. The series will continue in the fall with a final episode, as Hamilton connects with another athlete from an unexpected discipline and continues exploring the common ground shared by competitors at the highest level.
Ultimately, “Rest Day” presents a different definition of performance. It is not simply about winning when the lights are on. It is about understanding how to prepare, recover, remain present and keep moving toward whatever comes next.
