In luxury fashion, longevity has become as important as novelty. As heritage houses rethink the relationship between craftsmanship, sustainability, and consumer intimacy, restoration is emerging as a new frontier—one that extends beyond aftercare and into cultural preservation. This month in New York City, FENDI is positioning itself at the center of that conversation with the launch of the Baguette Lab and the unveiling of the Baguette® 26424 Re-Edition.

Open now through June 15th at the FENDI 57th Street Boutique, the immersive installation transforms one of the house’s most recognizable handbags into both artifact and living object. The activation offers visitors a rare glimpse into the evolving lifecycle of luxury goods, where repair and reinvention exist alongside exclusivity.

At the heart of the experience is the Baguette Lab, a new restoration initiative dedicated to breathing new life into existing FENDI Baguette bags. Guests are invited to bring in their personal pieces for individualized assessments, with one complimentary refurbishment offered per guest during the activation. Services range from structural repairs and hardware replacement to embroidery restoration, piping renewal, re-lining, and binding work—all executed through specialized repair ateliers that reinforce the house’s longstanding commitment to artisanal precision.

While restoration services have increasingly become a point of focus across luxury fashion, FENDI’s approach feels particularly resonant because of the emotional legacy attached to the Baguette itself. Since its debut in 1997, the silhouette has transcended accessory status to become a cultural signifier, worn across generations and continually reinterpreted through collaborations, materials, and craft techniques.

That history informs the launch of the Baguette® 26424 Re-Edition, introduced as part of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s debut FENDI Fall/Winter 2026-27 collection. Named after the original model code assigned to the bag at its inception, the 26424 Re-Edition revisits the foundational DNA of the design while subtly evolving its functionality for contemporary wear. The updated silhouette introduces a softer structure and improved under-the-arm wearability, maintaining the familiarity of the original while adapting to modern styling sensibilities.

The collection also reflects FENDI’s continued investment in global craftsmanship. In collaboration with Mumbai-based Chanakya Atelier and School of Craft, the twenty-piece capsule incorporates intricate embroidery techniques, mirror work, sequins, crystal embellishments, and hand-finished detailing that expand the tactile language of the Baguette. The partnership further underscores how luxury houses are increasingly looking toward cross-cultural artisanal dialogue to shape the future of fashion craftsmanship.

Each piece arrives with a unique Re-Edition metal tag and is housed inside a collectible wooden box inspired by archival art crates, complete with stencil graphics, a yellow canvas belt, and a metal logo buckle. The presentation reinforces the object-like quality of the collection—positioning each bag not simply as an accessory, but as a preserved work of design history.

More broadly, the Baguette Lab signals where the luxury industry may be heading next. In an era defined by resale, archival fashion, and growing consumer interest in longevity, restoration is no longer viewed as maintenance alone. Instead, it has become part of the storytelling ecosystem surrounding luxury ownership.

By bringing restoration directly into the retail environment ahead of the service’s nationwide launch this July, FENDI creates a more intimate relationship between client and craft. The result is an experience that feels less transactional and more curatorial—one that acknowledges the emotional and cultural value attached to fashion objects over time.

For New York, the installation arrives not only as a retail activation, but as a destination that reflects how heritage brands are redefining luxury through preservation, memory, and renewed craftsmanship.
