The fragrance industry has increasingly become a space where craftsmanship, cultural identity, and individual expression intersect. For independent perfumers, however, translating creative distinction into commercial opportunity often requires access to the right retail partners and international markets. AURA is positioning itself as a platform to bridge that gap, bringing some of Italy’s most compelling niche fragrance houses to the attention of American buyers.

On October 22, 2026, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), in partnership with Esxence – The Art Perfumery Event, hosted the second edition of AURA at ASPIRE at One World Observatory in New York City. The invitation-only showcase presented 30 Italian luxury niche-fragrance brands to more than 350 buyers, distributors, retailers, journalists, creators, and fragrance industry professionals, marking a considerable expansion from its inaugural 2025 presentation of 16 brands and 250 attendees.

The participating industry representatives included buyers and distributors from Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale's, Belk, Scentbird, Osswald NYC, BEAUTYSPACE, and TikTok Shop, among others. Research firm NielsenIQ and fragrance supplier Symrise also participated, reinforcing the commercial significance of independent Italian perfumery within the global beauty landscape.

The timing is particularly notable. According to UN Comtrade trade data, Italian exports of perfumes and fragrance waters reached approximately $3.09 billion in 2025, an 11.1% increase from the previous year. The United States accounted for approximately $583 million of those exports, representing 18.9% of Italy's worldwide fragrance exports and establishing the country as its leading individual export destination.

Italy's artistic and niche-perfumery market is estimated at approximately €450 million, reflecting the growing appetite for fragrances that extend beyond mainstream luxury positioning.

“These figures reveal a significant cultural shift, and AURA gave America early access to some of the most original voices in Italian artistic perfumery today,” said Erica Di Giovancarlo, Italian Trade Commissioner and executive director of the U.S. network. She emphasized the importance of connecting independent fragrance houses with American buyers, distributors, editors, and industry leaders to create meaningful opportunities in the country's fragrance market.

Beyond its business objectives, AURA approached fragrance as an immersive cultural experience. The evening program featured AURA RISING, an original performance by Joffrey Ballet School dancers choreographed by Angelica Stiskin, with costumes created in Italy by Monvieve Milano. The performance explored the relationship between movement, fabric, skin, and the invisible impression left by fragrance.

Esxence and the Italian Perfumery Institute also presented Scent in Bloom, an immersive olfactory installation inviting guests into a sensory landscape inspired by nature, memory, and emotion. Meanwhile, kinetic artist Daniel Wurtzel introduced his Air Tables, transforming lightweight fabric into floating sculptural forms that echoed the movement and ephemeral qualities of scent.

The participating brands included Acqua dell’Elba, Carthusia I Profumi di Capri, Casamorati, Coreterno, Giardini di Toscana, Jusbox Perfumes, Nobile1942, Parco1923, Xerjoff, and 21 additional Italian fragrance houses.

For Italy's independent perfumery sector, AURA represents more than an international showcase. Its expansion from 16 to 30 participating brands demonstrates the growing ambition of niche fragrance houses to establish a stronger presence in the American luxury market. By bringing together creative vision and commercial access, the platform is helping position Italian artistic perfumery as both a cultural export and an increasingly influential category within global luxury.
