How Streetwear Has Evolved Onto Shows Like Euphoria While Filling The Void Left By Virgil Abloh

Looking forward to the future of streetwear design, where the great fashion designer and cultural architect Virgil Abloh left us so suddenly, we can only notice the talent that has spawned from such epithet. These designers are exploring couture, or high-end construction to garment making, and infusing the silhouettes that have captured the essences of street culture.
More and more, fashion brands are gravitating toward a holistic era where the exclusivity and luxury that elevates fashion melds with the attitude and boldness of modern hoodies, oversized t-shirts, printed or embroidered denim, whether upcycled or recycled, even reconstructed. And more and more, street style fashion can be seen in almost every sector, sometimes as one of the main attractions, given the rise of the television show Euphoria on HBO.
A generation of designers has come up through the available information provided by the internet. They have broken down doors and now share their triumphant stories with the world through social media. Brands that have made their names in this generation’s flourishing fashion culture are challenging fashion labels to evolve.
A brand that has thrived on upcycling denim and has made waves in the high-end and streetwear market is Who Decides War, led by the duo, Ev Bravado, and Tele D’amour. The mix of classic silhouettes of American design are re-worked into their signature touches, including embroidery lace appliqué, and distress repaired denim styles, staples of each season.
For its Autumn/Winter 2022 collection titled “Witness,” Who Decides War explores draping on a vest, as well as slacks and a bomber jacket. The stained glass design embroidered onto their denim styles is meticulously imprinted and found throughout varying other trousers, jackets, and button shirts of the collection, the sentiment remains present in their video lookbook presentation.
The creative direction suggested ‘angels of war,’ commemorating lost loved ones over the years, eluding to the current and continuing pandemic. There is also inspiration from the finale scene of the cult classic film Romeo and Juliet, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, lighting 200 candles surrounded by floral art direction and decoration by Lutfi Janania.
Who Decides War creative directors Ev Bravado and Tele D’Amore have experimented with their designs from the beginning. While the A/W22 collection offers puffers with robust filling and tailoring at the shoulders, lace and embroidery denim pants, some denim styles upcycled from previous seasons, sherpa jackets, and ballgown-inspired bombers and trousers, the brand continues to evolve.
