Public School New York Returns With “Living Proof,” Bringing New York Fashion Back Into Focus

Public School New York is proving that a fashion comeback can be about more than simply returning to the runway. On September 10, the New York-based label founded by Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow, who wore a PSNY custom jacket covered in Kay Jewelers diamonds, returned to the New York Fashion Week calendar with its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, “LIVING PROOF,” gathering a cross-section of sports, music, fashion and culture that felt distinctly New York.
After a six-year hiatus, Public School’s return carries a particular significance. The brand has long occupied a unique position within American fashion, translating the contradictions of New York City into clothing—street and tailored, polished and imperfect, familiar and aspirational. Chow and Osborne built Public School around that tension, establishing a language of menswear that could move comfortably between the city’s sidewalks, creative spaces and more formal environments.

The “LIVING PROOF” presentation continued that conversation while putting the people who have helped shape contemporary culture directly into the frame. New York Knicks legend Carmelo Anthony, producer and rapper Swizz Beatz, 21 Savage, model Wisdom Kaye, actor Miles Caton and NBA stars including Kawhi Leonard, Evan Mobley and Serge Ibaka were among those in attendance. Musician Fireboy DML and Julez Smith also joined the gathering, alongside figures from across the fashion industry.
The guest list was less a traditional collection of front-row names than a reflection of Public School’s broader cultural ecosystem. Swizz Beatz and Fabolous, Carmelo Anthony and Fireboy DML, Kawhi Leonard and 21 Savage each represent different corners of a culture where fashion has become increasingly inseparable from music, sport and entertainment.

That intersection has always been central to Public School’s identity.
Chow and Osborne emerged from New York’s streetwear culture before developing Public School into a more refined proposition for American luxury menswear. Their design language has historically favored restraint over excess, using proportion, tailoring and utilitarian references to create clothing that feels rooted in the city without becoming a costume of it. Their return arrives at a moment when American fashion is once again examining what makes New York uniquely influential.
“LIVING PROOF” is therefore an apt title. The collection is not simply evidence that Public School remains relevant; the people surrounding it become part of that evidence. The athletes, musicians, designers, models and cultural figures gathered around the label demonstrate the continuing overlap between the communities that have traditionally driven New York fashion forward.
Public School has always understood that the city itself can function as a design brief. Its version of New York is not defined by one neighborhood or aesthetic, but by movement—the ability to shift between worlds while maintaining a recognizable sense of self. That philosophy has allowed the label to occupy the space between contemporary streetwear and luxury, where tailoring can coexist with athletic references and sophistication does not require sacrificing ease.

The return also underscores the growing importance of fashion’s cultural community beyond the runway. Today, a collection lives through the people who wear it, photograph it, discuss it and reinterpret it. Public School’s “LIVING PROOF” gathering made that ecosystem visible, assembling personalities whose influence extends well beyond traditional fashion circles.
For Chow and Osborne, the return is another chapter in a story deeply connected to New York. Public School’s legacy was built on the idea that sophistication could emerge from the city’s everyday uniform—that hoodies, tailoring, workwear and sportswear could share the same vocabulary. With “LIVING PROOF,” the brand continues to explore that idea while reconnecting with the city and its ever-changing cultural landscape.

Six years away did little to diminish the conversation. If anything, Public School’s return suggests that its most enduring proposition remains remarkably current: New York fashion is at its strongest when the clothes reflect the people who give the city its character.
And judging by the crowd gathered around “LIVING PROOF,” Public School still knows exactly where to look.
