I Am On Keto - Gaining Muscle But Losing Hair
By PAGE Editor
So I have been a bit overweight for a while - about 75 pounds overweight, signed up at a gym but ended up not keeping up with the schedule. I also tried some slimming teas but apparently, they didn't particularly work out. I also tried various eating styles, nothing serious, starved myself for a while but there was really no progress. Then I stumbled on the keto diet, and read a couple of miracle stories that inspired me greatly to try it out. Also, realizing that I could eat as much bacon and burgers from Burger King as I wanted felt like quite a treat.
So I was basically on a very low carb and super high-fat diet. I was determined to ensure that my stories joined the ranks so I ensure that I calculated my daily calorie intake every single day and avoided cheat meals completely. I experienced keto flu initially which I learned was a result of my body adapting to a fat-burning state and shifting away from a sugar-based diet. This occurred during my initial consumption but I soon got over it and it began to feel like a breeze. I could literally feel my body dropping weight and I started to feel a whole lot lighter.
My Keto Weight Loss Story Takes a Strange Turn
After losing about 40 pounds, I started to gain muscles, my flabby arms were definitely giving way for muscles and I was getting compliments. I started to feel great again and it felt like I was taking charge of my life all over again. I started to play sports about two times every week and with every drop of sweat, I felt like I was becoming super fit. This went on for quite a while during which I adhered to the diet religiously. However, I began to experience something funny; I wasn't entirely sure at first but as I continued the diet, it became a lot more apparent. And trust me, this was shocking to me. The shocking fact?
The shocking fact is that as I am gaining muscle, I am losing hair! It started with few strands getting attached to my hairbrush. While this is not unusual, it isn't commonplace either as the roots of my hair are firmly attached to my scalp. And I am definitely not going bald, neither is my hairline receding. In addition, I'm only 35 years old so there is absolutely no reason why I should lose hair. The only new factor in my life is the keto diet so I figured that it had to be the reason why I was losing hair.
Lest I forget, although it started out as a few strands, my hair is beginning to fall off a lot more rapidly. Right now, I'm actually stuck between stopping the diet altogether and going back to my previous diet or continuing with a hope that the hair loss is only a phase. However, I'm still trying to find a solution to the hair loss but I still haven't gotten anything concrete. A bit of research showed that while there are a number of side effects to the keto diet, hair loss is rarely one of them. This is exactly why I'm in a dilemma as to why I am losing hair in my own case.
To this end, I really don't know what to do. Because I love the way that my physique is transforming but the hair loss is a pretty serious issue. I really do not want to go bald at 35!!! On this note, I guess I'm just going to take a step back from the keto diet and hope for the best.
