Bridal Styling Mini-Guide: Dos And Don'ts For Your Wedding Day
By PAGE Editor
Congrats, you’re getting married! Selecting a wedding venue, designing invitations, choosing bridesmaid gifts for your best friends are all fun things, but planning your bridal look is on a different level. Whether you are talking about choosing your wedding dress, selecting your shoes, or shopping for beautiful bridal pearl pendants, planning out the look for the big day is a very exciting time in any future bride’s life. To help you get started, we've rounded up a few things you need to avoid and what you should consider when shopping for your big day.
DO – Think of Comfort When Planning Your Bridal Outfit
When shopping for your wedding dress and accessories, be aware that you will have to spend one full day in that outfit. Choose a dress that is beautiful but that will allow you to dance and move easily.
Same goes for your shoes. As tempting as it may be, don’t choose something just because they are full blinged-out if they are not comfortable. And always remember the accessories. The jewelry you choose to wear on your big day shouldn't tangle up in your hair or damage your dress. So even if you love your grandma’s heirloom bridal earrings, don’t wear them on your wedding day if they are uncomfortable or too heavy. You will feel self-conscious all day, and you don’t want that.
DON’T – Wear Something Just Because It's Uber Trendy
While you want to look amazing on your wedding day, it’s important to still feel like “you” on the occasion. Instead of choosing a very trendy dress just because your favorite celebrity wore a similar one on her big day, consider your personal style before everything. Plus, what may be very popular now can become out-of-style very quickly. And don’t forget that you will be looking at your wedding pictures for many years to come and you don’t want to have that “what was I thinking” moment.
DO – Know Your Style
Before arriving at your favorite bridal boutique for your appointment, be prepared to try out a few different dress styles before you make a decision. Even though the idea of a puffy skirt, head-to-toe lace, and floor-length veil is hard to resist, be open to trying out non-traditional wedding dresses too – or vice versa. You never know – maybe an outfit that you never thought you would wear as a bride will bring tears to your eyes.
You never know without trying. And don’t forget about hair and make-up, as a bridal look can’t be complete without them. Try out a few different hairdos and make-up looks to figure out what you like and what is flattering on you.
DON’T – Buy a Dress Just Because It’s on Sale
It can be very tempting to buy a sample dress because it costs less than half your planned budget, but you don’t want to miss out on having that “I’m in love” moment when you find the right dress. Feeling amazing, but most importantly feeling like yourself, is essential as it will affect your whole celebration. Instead of purchasing the first discounted dress you see in the boutique, consider your personal style first.
And remember the fact that you will need to pay for cleaning and alterations so the real cost of the dress might not be the one on the tag. But if you are one of those few very girls that actually finds THE ONE and it happens to be on sale, don’t think for a second and buy it before someone else snags it from under your nose.
