Who doesn’t want healthy hair? There are so many factors that are affecting your hair: hair type, weather, genetics, diet, regular blow-drying, straightening, curling, dyeing, and your hair care routine. Many of these are natural, but it doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. Here are some very simple hair care tips to keep your hair strong, shiny, and most of all healthy!

Lukewarm Water

The best way to relax after a long tiring day is to take a hot shower. However, regular hot showers are not good for your hair and skin. The high temperature makes your hair dry and dull, as they take away the neutral essential oils. So, use lukewarm water to ensure you are taking care of your hair and skin.

Choose Shampoo Wisely

You need to choose shampoos that do not contain sodium lauryl sulfate or ammonium lauryl sulfate, as they are harsh ingredients that tend to damage hair. Choose the ones that use plant extracts, essential oils, and other natural ingredients. Know your hair type and choose accordingly.

Limit the Heat

Styling your hair regularly with straightening irons, blow dryers and hot curlers takes a toll on your hair. Consistent application of heat weakens your hair, damages it, and makes it frizzy, especially if you have fine dry hair, prone to breakage. You should use heat protectant products like aloe vera or chi silk infusion to ensure that there is minimal damage to your hair from heated styling. If you really want to limit the damage, you should consider doing the heated styling session no more than two to three times a week. This provides recovery time for your hair before your next session. Always use lower heat settings.

Have a Balanced Diet

If you are not adhering to a balanced diet, your body and thus your hair, will not be getting the essential minerals and nutrients they require. Here are few things in your diet that directly affect hair:

  • Increase omega-3 fatty acids intake to stimulate the hair follicles. The natural sources include salmon, sardines, flax seeds, yogurt, and cottage cheese.

  • Zinc deficiency causes hair fall. So, consume lots of leafy green veggies, almonds, walnuts, and pecans.

  • Vitamin B complex, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, and Vitamin E are all important for healthy hair.

  • Iron deficiency also causes one’s hair to shed, so ensure you are including the right amount in your daily diet.

Hair Care Routine

Have a hair care routine. Massage your hair with oils like olive, almond, or coconut oil, twice or thrice a week. Use a natural hair mask like egg or yogurt at least once a week for rejuvenation and deep conditioning. The natural remedies are good for hair growth and are less damaging to the hair.

Haircare doesn’t mandate that you try difficult treatments. It mostly involves a healthy balanced diet, a few behavioral changes, and a hair mask once in a while. The best way to treat your hair is to know your hair type. That way whatever you choose to do will revolve around your hair type, whether it is a natural hair remedy or your shampoo. So, try the tips above for strong and healthy hair.
